My area was mostly Gangster Disciples (GD), and a small Mexican gang called the Vikings. First of all, don't take me for an apologist, hell, I moved to Rogers Park because I lived in Humbolt Park and thought it would be preferable to be shot with a pistol than a machine gun after a guy on my street was riddled with bullets in a drive-by. I ran a youth and adult program in Rogers park about 10 years ago and I learned a hell of a lot about gangs, gang banging, and 'at-risk' city folk in a very very short time. How many black or Hispanic teenagers do you know? How much do you know about the lives of kids who have grown up in this city? How much do you know about the homeless guys begging in the streets? Ask yourself how many gang bangers you know. Second, there's a lot of people who have some pretty strong opinions of gangs in Chicago, but rather than enlightened opinions, it's the same dehumanizing, knee-jerk, crap that make violence against outsiders the common thread of human history. This is where they fall out of favor with the ACLU, which, if you're bagging on them, you are probably a hopeless idiot as they are the only people, aside from your mother, who give a shit about your rights. The problem is, this is an arbitrary criteria: not all gang bangers have face tattoos and not all people with face tattoos are gang bangers not all gang bangers are looking for trouble and not all troublemakers are gang bangers. They chose to do this by selecting on what they feel are obvious signs of trouble. The cops maintain a near permanent presence at that intersection because it is a vector for riff-raff ( not the Heathcliff nemesis either, unfortunately).Ĭrocodile, which has been there for years at this point, probably has a pretty good reason for needing to keep certain people out i.e. I personally can't stand the neighborhood, but I've been there recently and I've seen a lot of shady fucked up idiots causing trouble, getting into fights, etc. It went from homeless and working class scrubs to grungy hipsters to yuppies to super-yuppies with families, to out-of-towner-party people over the course of my 20+ years around here. the neighborhood gentrified in the mid 90's and is now a destination for weekend festivities much like Wrigleyville and River North. If you've spent any time in Wicker Park, especially around 6-corners there has been a lot of things change in the past 10+ years.

I'd be surprised if I hadn't seen this shit on just about every /r/Chicago thread.whole lotta 'better than thou' haters around here for some reason.įirst, the policy at Crocodile. There's a whole lot of "fuck them they deserve it." posts here. TL DR 2: If you think you are in a position to judge people with face tattoos, you've become enamored with the stench of your own shit pull your head out of your ass TL DR I can sympathize with Crocodile, but they stepped in it when they made this an official policy (should have just told the bouncers who to no let in, or charge a cover).
